Dhammek Stupa – the seat of the holy Buddha

This is a pretty and a peaceful location where you can see different types of buddhists and jainists. Dhammek Stupa is in Sarnath which is India’s great learning centre and a pilgrimage. Dhammek stupa has its significance as “the seat of the holy Buddha”. Here the people are quiet and receive the tourists with great respect. Also we can see lot of lord Buddha images. This is a fabulous place. This stupa is in the shape of cylinder made of bricks and the height of the stupa is 34 mts and with a diameter of 28 mtrs. The wall of the stupa is carved with flower designs and human figures and also birds figures, where the art of India reflects its dignity.




Its built by Ashoka, the great Mauryan king. It is said that, Dhammek stupa at Sarnath is the spot where lord Buddha preached his first message. Dhammek stupa lies inside the Deer park in Sarnath.

How to reach

To reach Dhammek stupa, the Varanasi airport is the nearest one that is at a distance of 18 kms. And the railway station that is very near is Varanasi railway station junction and is 7 kms away from Dhammek stupa. This is well connected through road network also.
