Lucknow Zoo – a world of animals

Located in the mid-city of Lucknow this zoo is named as “The Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens” and was established in 1921. The name was changed by the Uttar Pradesh Government as “Lucknow Prani Udyan”.




This Zoo has 12 lakhs visitors annually. The Zoo is the home with nearly 298 birds, 463 mammals and 72 reptiles representing 97 species. Also there are Swamp Deer’s, Hog Deer, Wolf, Rhinoceros, Barking Deer, Black Buck and Golden and Silver pheasants.

Have a look at the Royal Bengal Tiger, Elephants, White Tiger, Lions, Fishes, Hoolock Gibbon, Hill Mynahs, Himalayan Black Bear, Giraffes, Owls, Zebra, Common Otters, Giant Squirrels, Crocodiles and Great Pied Hornbill.

A Toy train is the point where children get attracted towards it and was inaugurated on the Children’s Day 14 November 1969 by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and now has been parked in front of the state museum in the zoo premises which was gifted by the Railway Board. A new toy train runs in the zoo premises from 2014 where one may enjoy the ride.

There is a State Museum in the new building with sculptures, coins, paintings, bronze pictures and arts gallery with the main attractions, Egyptian Mummy and wooden sarcophagusure.

How to reach

You can very well reach this place by auto and taxi and is at a distance of 4kms from Charbagh station. The timings of the zoo are : 8.30 am to 5.30 pm and Monday holiday.
