Jami Vruksham (pronounced Jaamivruksham) is a sacred tree which is believed to be very powerful tree with miraculous power. This is situated about 10 km away from Vizianagaram district. It is located on the bank of the River Gowthami which has its origin in the lime stone caves of Borra in the Eastern Ghats. It has an average height of 46 meters. Jammi can not only survive in poorly nourished soil but also in water stress conditions.
According to legend, it is believed that the Pandavas mahabarata fame hid their weapons during their agnatavasam (exile) in this tree. During their stay, King Dharmaraj installed the idols of lord Shiva and Lord Sri Maha Vishu, at this place. 500 years ago residents found an idol of Sri Madhava Swamy and established it between the earlier two temples and named it Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple. The jammi tree at the temple is considered to be holy for its miraculous powers. In the 18th century, members of the Bishnoi sect had sacrificed their lives instead of letting a king to cut down the JammiVruksham.
