Witness the ancient Buddhist glory in Salihundam

Salihundam is a village nestled in Srikakulam District in Andhra Pradesh, which is famous for its Buddhist remnant sites. It is a historical village located atop the hills on the bank of the River Vamsadhra offering amazing picturesque views to the tourists. The village is visited by the Buddhist pilgrims from all around the country. The village allures Buddhist pilgrims from every corner of the world. The village features with a number of stupas located at the top of the hill offering wonderful views to the visitors. There is also a huge monastic complex which gives a glimpse of ancient Buddhist architecture of ancient times.

Witness the historical remnants
Relic caskets, architectural shrines and four stupas were discovered during excavation by Gidigu Venkata Ramana Moorthy in 1919. The sculptures, temples and stupas discovered here reflect three phases of Buddhism i.e. Mahayana, Vajrayana and Theravada. The remains are considered to be from 2nd Century to the 12th Century AD.Archaeological excavation also discovered statues of Tara and Mareechi in this village.
