Keesaragutta temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is frequented by a lot of devotees, especially on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. The temple stands on a hillock. The temple also has idols of Shivadurga and Bhavani who are the consorts of Lord Shiva. According to the legend of this temple, Lord Rama had ordered Hanuman to get a Shiva Linga, so that he may atone his sin of killing Ravana by establishing it at the hillock. When Hanuman could not return on time, Lord Shiva himself appeared and presented the Linga to Rama. Thus, this temple was founded. Many devotees throng the temple and seek the blessings. Archaeological excavations have also unearthed many artefacts and objects belonging to Chalukya dynasty and shows signs of Buddhisma and Jainism in the area around the same time.
