Built by Akbar, the Mughal Emperor at Allahabad, on the banks of the two rivers Ganga and Yamuna, in the year 1583 is the Allahabad Fort which is the largest fort and is at a distance of 7kms from the Allahabad railway station. The design of the fort is unique.
Some part of the fort is in the Indian army authority and the other part is left for the tourist visit. There is a 35 feet tall Ashoka Pillar, made of sand stone. Some more mesmerizing attractions in the fort are Jodhabai Palace that represents hindu and Islamic architectures and other is Saraswati kund.
There is a temple underneath this monumental fort called Patalpuri Temple and Akshayavat, the immortal banyan tree. A small door is seen in the eastern wall of the fort to reach Patalpuri Temple. Also the Akshayavat is in the area of Patalpuri Temple. Immortality is attained by the one jump from the Akshayavat tree.
The time to visit the fort is on all the days from 6 am to 5 pm. And the season ideal to visit the fort is in the month of October and March during which the climate is pleasant.
How to reach
The fort is near about 7kms from Allahabad Railway station. One may reach there through local transport.
