Fatehpur Sikri – Victory of our great emperor Akbar

Fatehpur Sikri is 35km away from Agra and is on the Vindhya Mountain. This city was earlier known as Sikrigarh for which the emperor was Maharaja Sangram Singh.

We will go into its history that how this city got the name Fatehpur Sikri. It was the great Akbar who attacked this city many times and gained victory on sikrigarh. Akbar the great, the Mughal emperor visited a saint called Salim who used to reside in sikri, told Akbar that his second son will become a great emperor who was Jahangir. This was built in between 1569 and 1585 with wonderful architecture and design.

The hall in this court is known as Diwan-i-khas which was used as the royal chamber by the emperor, Akbar. There is also a Panch Mahal in Fatehpur Sikri, which is a five-storey rebuilding. The tomb of the saint Salim Chisti is also located here and is built with excellent carvings.

Buland Darwaza is considered as the largest gateway in the world. It was made to celebrate the success of emperor Akbar in the year 1575, with a height of 54 meters and with the architecture of Mughals and Persian.

It is open on all days for the tourists.
